If you’re looking for a really good meal in a relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff, look no further than Vino.

What makes it even better: From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., all regular menu dishes are 50-percent off if you sit at the bar.

I’ve been a fan of Vino’s happy hour for years. We returned this weekend to learn the restaurant recently changed its menu.

My heart broke a little when I learned my favorite foie gras was no longer a happy-hour option.

It healed once I tasted the Bristol Bay scallops, served with Kahuku corn ragu and truffle beurre blanc on a bed of pasta.

Daniel and I practically licked the plate clean. At 50-percent off, I believe we’ll each be ordering our own next time.

The burrata was another favorite that’s no longer available.

Instead, Vino offers a house-made stracciatella, similar in its delicate, creamy flavor, but slightly more dense and lumpy in texture.

It’s still served with pesto and locally grown tomato concasse, and lightly charred crostini for a balanced bite.

Last, but certainly not least, Vino’s classic apple tart, which has been on the menu for as long as I can remember.

Layers of puffed pastry, thinly sliced apples, a generous dusting of cinnamon, and a rich, glossy caramel sauce. It’s decadent, yet not overpowering.

I’m always tempted to try another dessert, but this tart is a tried-and-true winner.

Vino is located in Restaurant Row at 500 Ala Moana Boulevard. [website]
